New Technology Helps Producers Monitor Water Levels In Real Time

Building a Global AgTech Platform – Part III: Opportunities Ahead

Due to the increased labor costs and availability issues, growers have been more rapidly pursuing automation. They are trying to automate as many tasks as possible on the farm, including irrigation which is labor-intensive for certain crops. Farmers are now looking for the ability to turn on/ off pumps with field valve control from their phones or computers, whereas in the recent past they would have their irrigators drive the fields to manually turn on valves. As farms become larger, it also became much easier to manage large blocks of acreage using automation for the irrigator, in effect multiplying an owners’ time and effort across larger acreages.

Building a Global AgTech Platform – Part I: Acquisitions are Integral to Strategy

Jain Irrigation, Inc (“JII”) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Jain Irrigation Systems Limited (“JISL”) based in Jalgaon, India. In 2015 JII developed a strategic plan to create a leading AgTech irrigation company with a billion-dollar target valuation. At around the same time, Mandala Capital invested a total of USD 120 million across the Jain group.

From 2015 to 2019 the company acquired Puresense Environmental, Observant, Pty. Ltd., and ETwater Inc. Also, JISL’s sister company, NaanDanJain, acquired Gavish Control System (a leading nursery and greenhouse controls company) in 2014. JISL also formed a partnership with Agralogics.

Arid Zone Grazing Reimagined - Using Observant Technology

Steve and Rebecca Cadzow say they were forced to rethink the management of their Northern Territory cattle operation when they came to fully appreciate that virtually every grass, bush and tree on the property was edible.

The penny dropped during an RCS Grazing For-Profit school where the Cadzows were challenged to think about the way they approached the management of the family cattle business.

Observant Helps Farmers Check Stock Water Levels Remotely

Farm online automation business Observant is building a new factory and office in inner-city Melbourne and recently opened offices in California and the Goulburn Valley.

Our CEO J.Matthew Pryor was interviewed recently by the Weekly Times about the new direction the company is taking with the launch of DIY Kits for the pastoral market that reduces the time spent checking stock water points. A do-it-yourself tank level monitoring kit, which is fixed atop remote tanks. It reports back water levels over the Observant Global communications system that transmits data over the Telstra mobile phone network.

Gallagher I-Series Data Controller Launched

Our GlobalLink Partner, Gallagher the New Zealand fencing systems manufacturer, has launched a new product that lets farmers control electric fences from a smartphone, tablet or computer.

Their i-Series energisers allow farmers to segment their fences into six different zones so they can pinpoint faults in the fence to mend a broken wire or fencepost that is shorting out, or find a downed tree on the farm without having to walk the entire fence line. 

The new i Series System Data Controller is an Observant Ready accessory that allows farmers to manage their fences remotely and receive SMS Alerts using Observant Global.

Observant C3 Wins Australian International Design Award

Published June 2013

The 2013 Australian International Design Award Event was held in Sydney on May 30th as part of Sydney’s Australian International Design Festival, attracting more than 250 entries from a vast range of industries.

Judging took place in Sydney with six panels of Australian and international design experts assessing each entry on form, function, quality, safety, sustainability, commerciality and innovation. Winners of the Design Award were announced by the NSW Premier and Australian of the Year, Ita Buttrose.

Observant proudly took home a Design Award for the C3. The C3, which also won the 2012 Irrigation Australia New Product/Innovation Award, is a flexible monitoring platform for remote infrastructure management. It can be configured for modular operations or complete stand-alone operations when paired with Observant’s robust, tamper and vandal proof solar enclosure.
